LEO'S DIARY
These zines illustrate excerpts of my grandad Leo's diary who evacuated Nazi Germany as a young Jewish boy on the Kinder Transport. He came to England alone and was placed in a children's workhouse in Suffolk where he was taught some English and worked on the fields.
Leo went on to work as a Taylor in London. He later became a war worker as his anti-facist duty to do so. Finally, he studied English lit and became a secondary school English teacher. He changed his name from Leopold Weil to Leonard Lawrence, got settled status and married my grandmother Muriel. They moved to Winnersh near Reading and had two children: Tim (my dad) and Tess (my aunt).

Leo passed away during hip surgery in his 50's so I very sadly never got to meet him but his diary that he left behind has been a beautiful way to learn more about him and his incredible story.
